Sole Separation Repair
Professional repair for shoes and boots where the sole has separated from the upper — from loose toes to full upper-to-sole reattachment.
WE REPAIR SOLE SEPARATION
In today’s modern footwear industry, many shoes and boots are held together primarily with adhesives rather than stitching or welting. Because of this, we are seeing more and more upper-to-sole failures, where the sole begins to separate from the upper.
Sometimes the problem is just a loose toe or heel area. Other times, the whole sole has come off one shoe — or both shoes. What many people do not realize is that with the proper repair process, many shoes can be restored to their original usefulness.
At High Street Shoe Repair, we perform sole separation repairs on hiking boots, work boots, casual shoes, sneakers, comfort shoes, trail shoes, and many other types of footwear. These repairs require careful cleaning, surface preparation, professional footwear adhesive, and the right clamping or pressing process.
This is not the same as simply squeezing household glue into a gap. A durable sole separation repair usually means removing old failing adhesive, preparing both surfaces, applying the correct adhesive, and carefully reattaching the upper to the sole.

FAQ — SOLE SEPARATION REPAIR
Can separated shoe soles really be repaired?
Yes. Many separated soles can be professionally reattached, especially when the upper and sole are still in usable condition.
What adhesive do you use?
We use mostly Renia products for this type of repair, especially Renia Ortec, a German adhesive made specifically for the footwear industry. It is designed for flexible, durable shoe and boot repair.
Why did my shoe sole come loose?
Modern footwear is often assembled with adhesives. Heat, moisture, age, flexing, storage conditions, and material breakdown can all cause the bond between the sole and upper to fail.
Is this the same as just gluing the shoe back together?
No. A proper repair usually includes cleaning away failing adhesive, preparing the surfaces, applying professional footwear adhesive, and pressing or clamping the shoe correctly while the bond cures.
Can you repair just the toe area?
Yes. Many sole separation repairs are small toe or heel repairs. These are often less expensive than a full sole reattachment.
Can you repair both shoes if both soles are coming off?
Usually, yes. If the materials are still sound, we can often reattach the soles on both shoes.
How much does sole separation repair cost?
Most sole separation repairs are in the $15 to $35 range. Hikers, cupped sole can run a bit more. The final price depends on the amount of separation, the materials, and whether one or both shoes need repair.
Is it worth repairing separated soles?
Often, yes. If the shoes are comfortable, hard to replace, expensive, or otherwise in good condition, sole separation repair can be a smart alternative to buying a new pair.
Can hiking boots with separated soles be repaired?
Very often, yes. Hiking boots and trail shoes are among the most common footwear we see for sole separation repair.
Do you offer mail-in sole separation repair?
Sorry, we do not offer this service through the mail.
